How well do you know your own head? This edition of the quick quiz travels from Australia all the way out into space!
Congratulations! You’re a real science whiz! Oh dear! Better brush up before the next quiz! Cycads are plants that look a bit like palms, and they have been around since before the dinosaurs! False. Some marsupials are native to New Guinea and not Australia, and others, including opossums, are native to the Americas. An igneous intrusion is where molten rock comes up through the crust. Rocks are studied by rock scientists – geologists! There are 29 bones in the human head – eight in the cranium, 14 in the face, one in the neck and three in each ear! The asteroid belt is an area of space between Mars and Jupiter, which contains many asteroids and the dwarf planet Ceres.

Teeth?
6 April, 2018 at 2:35 pm
Hi Thor,
Good question! Teeth are very similar to bones. they are hard, and have a similar colour. But teeth are not made of the same stuff that bones are. Bones are made of bone tissue, and teeth are made mostly of dentine and tooth enamel.
This might not be very convincing, so I’ll leave you with one thought. If teeth are bones, how come our bodies can repair a broken bone, but not a broken tooth?
Thanks again for your great question,
David
