Difficulty: Tricky

Clare and Jeremy just finished a job overseas, on Dough Island. They received the following as payment, in the island’s currency:

• A $3 coin
• A $4 coin
• A $6 note
• An $8 note and
• A $9 note.

Clare and Jeremy want to share the money so they both get the same number of dollars. Is this possible?

Brainteaser hint

To work out what each person is owed, add up all the money and divide by 2.

Yes, it’s possible. There are $30 in total, so Clare and Jeremy want $15 each.
One of them must take the $9 note, and then take the $6 note, to make $15.
The other person then gets the $3 coin, the $4 coin and the $8 note, which also makes $15.
