Being online is just part of living in the 21st century! Cybersecurity is all about making the most of the internet safely. So be a smart cookie and take a byte out of cybercrime with this quiz! (You can learn more about cybersecurity and staying safe online on Cosmos.)

#1. Which of the following is the strongest password?

A strong password uses uppercase letters, lowercase letters, numbers and symbols (like !, @, #, $). It’s also important to use passwords that are different from past ones. Strong passwords are harder to remember so it is a good idea to use a password manager.

#2. True or false? Cookies are small files that websites use to monitor, track and remember you.

True. You may have noticed that lots of websites warn you about the cookies they use on their site. These small files monitor your activity and remember you – it’s why you can put something in your shopping cart, leave, and then see ads for that item pop up on different websites. You can always choose “reject” when websites give you the option.

#3. Multi-factor authentication (MFA) and two-factor authentication (2FA) require multiple “factors” to prove your identity. Which of the following is NOT one of the common factors used?

Something you show is the odd one out though it may be a way you prove your identity in real life. MFA usually relies on something you know first, like a password and then verifies your identity by sending you a code to your device and/or gathering biometric data like a fingerprint. These combos make your sign in much more secure!

#4. Which of the following is NOT considered part of your digital footprint?

At least for now, our real-time conversations are not recorded and uploaded! It is important to know that our digital footprint consists of active activities like posting to social media, sending emails and shopping online. It also consists of passive activities like information collected while visiting websites that use cookies.

#5. Which of the following pieces of hardware help protect your digital files?

USB security keys are computer chips that are specially designed to hold passwords and be tamper resistant. Biometric scanners are also hardware that use your body as a type of password. Last but not least, your house’s locks physically protect your devices!
